Research and Development Manager jobs in Indiana
Research and Development Manager manages and directs the research and development programs to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential new products. Develops and implements research and development procedures and techniques. Being a Research and Development Manager oversees complex research projects, analyzes results and provides recommendations based on findings. Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures they are on time and within budget. Additionally, Research and Development Manager may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to a head of unit/director. The Research and Development Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Research and Development Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required. - Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and strategies for research and development initiatives that align with the company business plan
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project goals, objectives, and key deliverables.
- Assist in allocating resources effectively to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
- Identify and address potential resource constraints or bottlenecks.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
- Proactively address issues as they arise, working closely with team members to find solutions.
- Facilitate effective communication within the project team and with key stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, milestones achieved, and challenges faced.
- Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the R&D team.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to drive innovation within the Project Management realm.
- Collaborate with external customers, including vendors, academic institutions, and research organizations, to leverage expertise and resources.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field; advanced degree (Master’s) and/or PMP certification preferred.
2. Proven experience (3 years) in project management, preferably in an R&D or innovation setting.
3. Strong understanding of product development life cycle, research & development processes (preferred from Plastic Industries), and project management methodologies.
4. Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
6. Demonstrated success in collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
