Research Fellow develops the strategy and vision to position a project from inception through completion; creates teams and collaborations that understand the project's direction. Communicates direction through words or actions to inspire team members to reach goals. Being a Research Fellow also responsible for planning and budgeting. Requires a PhD in their field of specialty. Additionally, Research Fellow typically reports to a top management. The Research Fellow manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Research Fellow typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Research Fellow position to assist with and conduct original research including planning, maintaining or completing research projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge and concepts which require advanced level scientific/research knowledge and abilities.

    Essential Functions
    • Develops or assists in the development of complex project proposals, research, plans and protocols.
    • Designs and/or conducts complex experiments and studies in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts.
    • Assists with logistics of research to include equipment, materials, and labor needs.
    • Collects data/samples related to own research as well as others' research.
    • Records, processes and analyzes data/samples.
    • Documents results in writing and presents results to others.
    • Prepares research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include performing literature reviews.
    • Serves as a supervisor to other researchers and students in area of expertise.
    • May provide consulting to third party organizations related to research activities.
    • May maintain projects, coordinate funding, and/or manage ordering and budgets.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Level I Doctoral degree in discipline appropriate to position and no experience.
    • Level II Doctoral degree in discipline appropriate to position and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
    • Level III Doctoral degree in discipline appropriate to position and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols, including at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
    • Level IV Doctoral degree in discipline appropriate to position and 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols, including at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

    Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed. Indicated experience is required; no substitutions allowed.

    Experience with high throughput sequencing sample preparation and data analysis, preferably with single-cell or single-nuclei approaches, general molecular lab techniques, publication/verbal communication of research results (in the English language). Must be able to work collegially with others on large, multidisciplinary research projects.
