Academic Support Librarian (Temporary)

  • Primary Purpose:
    The Academic Support Librarian (Temporary) contributes to the University of the Pacific Library's research support and learning services. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for User Services & Programs, the person in this role collaborates with fellow librarians in delivering services to the University community in order to develop students' information literacy skills through offering library instruction sessions, research consultations, as well as contributing to library tutorials and guides. The Academic Support Librarian (Temporary) contributes to an organization that is student-centered and committed to continually examining and pursuing ways to address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the library.

    This is a part-time temporary staff position, begins immediately and ends May 11, 2022.

    Essential Functions:
    Contributes to library programs and services that support the curricular and research needs of students and faculty informed by best-practices, such as inclusive pedagogy, equitable assessment, and the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
    Collaborates with fellow Academic Support Librarians to support student success and retention through research consultations, library instruction, and other information literacy services and programs.
    Utilizes relevant and effective technologies to design and develop library guides, and other digital learning objects.
    Incorporates active learning strategies in the classroom to support the needs of the learners, whether the instruction occurs in-person, virtual, synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid, and/or flipped.
    Committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values and strategic priorities in the library and at University of the Pacific.

    Minimum Qualifications:Education/Work Experience/Certifications:
    Coursework in an ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information science.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience delivering instruction and research services in an academic library.

    Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
    Ability to succeed as a member of a team of library professionals to collaboratively and effectively deliver research help and information literacy services.
    Passion for quality services and initiatives centered around developing students information literacy skills and characterized by collaboration with fellow library professionals, teaching faculty, and academic support providers.
    Ability to effectively teach students using active learning strategies and a desire to explore different modes of teaching, such as hybrid, asynchronous, and flipped classroom.
    Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
    Experience creating and editing LibGuides and other Springshare products.
    Proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity equity and inclusion.
    Ability to manage time and multiple projects in a changing environment.
    Enthusiasm for innovation, problem solving, and creativity.
    Commitment to effective communication and cooperative teamwork.
    Experience using learning management systems, such as Canvas.
    Experience integrating innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

    Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
    Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Work performed during standard business hours. Some travel may be required.

    Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience, Non exempt
