Job Description: The Employee Relations Specialist will oversee employee investigations and labor relations within the HR department. This role involves managing investigations, ensuring CBA and employment law compliance, participating in negotiations, leading grievance procedures, and providing training and coaching to managers. The Specialist will also conduct workplace investigations and mediate conflicts.

Key Responsibilities:

Management Functions:

• Employee Relations: Provide coaching and consultation to managers on supervisory practices, including corrective action and terminations.
• Investigations and Conflict Resolution: Conduct or oversee workplace investigations, mediation, and conflict resolution.
• Labor Relations:
• Advise managers on CBA compliance, employment law, and organizational policies.
• Lead grievance procedures and collaborate with HR leadership on resolutions.
• Assist in labor negotiations.
• Implement proactive grievance avoidance strategies, such as training leaders on union workforce management and positive leadership practices.
• Track HR data to identify trends and make recommendations.
• Build relationships with management and union representatives through site visits and committee involvement.
• Maintain accurate and organized electronic records.
• Process termination paperwork and alerts.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures.
• Implement new and revised union job descriptions.
• Process annual wage increases and maintain wage scales.
• Support special projects as needed.
• Respond to employee policy violations and resolve workplace conflicts.
• Ensure appropriate approvals for suspensions and terminations.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships.

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• HR Certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
• Minimum of four years of HR Generalist experience.
• Proven experience in labor relations and collective bargaining agreements.
• In-depth knowledge of federal and California state employment laws.
• Experience in healthcare and multi-site organizations preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS systems.
• Strong confidentiality, judgment, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven leadership, teamwork, and influence skills.
• Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various work sites.
• In-depth understanding of labor law, NLRB requirements, and workplace investigation procedures.
• Ability to resolve complex personnel issues and coordinate with other departments.
