    Summary

    This position provides administrative, donor, and customer service support for the ResourceDevelopment Department and the Northwestern Michigan College Foundation. The Development Assistant is the primary staff responsible for daily gift entry and reporting, membership processing, and acknowledgement letter creation. This position also serves as the department receptionist and provides support at events as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of one year of office experience in a team setting (Required)
    • College coursework in related area (Required)
    • Valid, unrestricted Michigan Driver's License or ability to obtain by start date (Required)
    • Word processing skills and experience (i.e. Microsoft Word) (Required)
    • Spreadsheet skills and experience (i.e. Microsoft Excel) (Required)
    • Associate's degree (Preferred)
    • Between one and two years of related experience (Preferred)
    • Experience in a nonprofit setting and a passion for nonprofit development (Preferred)
    • Experience coordinating events (Preferred)
    • Experience with database software required, Raisers Edge® donor software (Preferred)
    • Experience with print material production, working with vendors, etc. (Preferred)
    • Experience working with electronic meeting scheduling (Preferred)
    • Experience working with volunteers (Preferred)
    • Related work experience in organizing, tracking and reporting on information with special attention to detail (Preferred)

    Essential Responsibilities

    • (Critical) Executes daily gift and membership entry for all donations received by the College and Foundation. Reports daily results to department.
    • (Critical) Prepares and processes acknowledgement letters and receipts to donors. Archives and stores records within College data systems.
    • (Critical) Performs clerical and bookkeeping tasks relevant to department functions, including issuing receipts, sorting daily mail, preparing deposits, and contacting appropriate others (vendors, other departments) to maintain supplies.
    • (Critical) Creates letters, agendas, merge letters, tables, reports, invitations, and other documents using word processing and spreadsheet software.
    • (Critical) Uses database software and other systems to maintain donor records, track donor correspondence and create/edit mailing lists and statistical information.
    • (Critical) Communicates with donors and volunteers through phone calls, email, and facetoface contact. Provides direction, assistance and information as needed, accommodating requests as appropriate.
    • (Critical) Provides administrative support to other Resource Development Department members, College and Foundation volunteers, staff from other departments, and others as assigned and as needed.
    • (Very Important) Attends and participates in NMC and department meetings and events as needed and assigned.
    • (Very Important) Works as part of a cohesive team in the Resource Development and Foundation Office to achieve fundraising and organizational goals.
    • (Very Important) Assists in the organization and preparation of mass mailings including donor solicitations, correspondence, newsletters, and invitations as needed.
