    The Position:
    The position serves as the academic manager responsible for leadership, planning, developing, organizing, day-to-day management, and evaluating the Associate and Bachelor Degree Respiratory Care Program tracks. Responsibilities will also include leadership and administrative support for other Allied Health programs (Anesthesia Technology, Central Service Technology, Emergency Medical Care, and Surgical Technology) and services within Skyline College. Public contact is extensive and includes students, faculty, staff, other educational institutions, community and business representatives, governmental agencies and the general public, for the purpose of exchanging program information and services. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to adequately represent the college, Respiratory Care and other Allied Health programs, to serve as a technical resource person for Allied Health, and to design program components and services and ensure their effectiveness. As a member of the college leadership team, the Director is held to the Leadership Standards of Excellence.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.     The position requires the ability to elicit and bring focus to recommendations from state agencies, hospital consortiums and clinic personnel, students, faculty, staff, and administrators. It also calls for organizational skills that enable the performance of duties in a timely manner and with attention to detail.

    The following are specific duties and responsibilities:
    • Develops curriculum goals, objectives, and learning activities for the Respiratory Care Program in concert with the faculty and staff
    • Provides Respiratory Care teaching support when needed
    • Updates the curriculum in keeping with community, technological, demographic, and college changes
    • Assures compliance with the rules and regulations of the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and Respiratory Care Board of California in addition to supporting and maintaining successful accreditation for all other Allied Health Programs
    • Coordinates and orients Respiratory Care and Allied Health faculty
    • Serves as a liaison between the college and community agencies in the planning and coordinating of clinical facilities
    • Facilitates the recruitment, admission, and progress of Allied Health Program students
    • Supports faculty in classroom instruction and student activities for all Allied Health Programs
    • Maintains regular and effective contact with students and faculty. Facilitates an effective advisory committee for receiving input from representatives of community agencies
    • Utilizes college resources in writing grants, and reports, and for planning and administering program budgets
    • Participates actively with other managers in planning processes and in addressing college concerns
    • Encourage program innovation and renewal in response to changing community, student, and workforce needs
    • Facilitates effective communication and collaboration among Allied Health faculty and staff across the division
    • Provides leadership and administrative support to other Allied Health programs and faculty in the division for Anesthesia Technology, Central Service Technology, Emergency Medical Care, and Surgical Technology
    • Serves as key emergency prevention, preparedness, and response personnel as assigned
    • Commits to and acts in accordance with the Leadership Standards of Excellence
    • Performs other duties as assigned



    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist with the National Board for Respiratory Care for a minimum of four years
    • Possess or qualify for a valid, active California Respiratory Care License
    • Possession of a Masters degree or above from an accredited college or university or the equivalent
    • A minimum of two years experience in clinical respiratory care
    • A minimum of two years experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor
    • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff






    Physical Requirements:
    This classification requires sitting for long periods of time, pushing and pulling, and visual acuity. The ability to type, use phone, stand intermittently, walk, bend and stoop, occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of light to moderate weight, work at a computer, including sitting and viewing a monitor for various lengths of time, repetitive use of keyboard, mouse or other control device, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate keyboard, hearing and speaking to communicate and provide information to others; ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive to off campus locations in order to perform the essential functions.

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community at large
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams to effectively reach project goals and outcomes
    • Knowledge of and experience with Respiratory Care education policies, partnerships, and procedures
    • Active involvement in professional association(s) related to respiratory care
    • Understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college
    • Experience in integration of pedagogies that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skills
    • Familiarity with the use of instructional technology and media to enhance teaching and student learning
    • Experience in directing the work of others and in providing positive problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrated skills in leadership and coordination of program services
    • Skill in communicating respectfully, sensitively, and effectively with people who are diverse in their academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds

    • Ability to speak a second language is desirable but not required.
