As part of the management team, the director of finance must have strong leadership, management, technology, analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills. What you get to do every single day

- Supervise all operations of the finance and accounting department

- Oversee the preparation of all financial reports

- Analyze and monitor forecasting and budgeting models

- Decide on benchmarks for comparing the operating and financial performance

- Oversee all hiring aspects of finance staff, including training and retention

- Supervise risk and insurance management

- Oversee the preparation of financial forecasts and outlooks

- Own financial planning and budget management functions

- Develop five-year business plans with department managers

- Comply with all budgetary reporting requirements, including local, state, and federal

- Prepare financial analysis for product investment decisions and contract negotiations

- Analyze monthly operating performance against budget

- Manage the operating procedures of the department, including short- and long-range goals, objectives, and policies- Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives
