About the Gig

The Staff Accountant position works out of Stansell Electric’s Nashville Office assisting in all aspects of general business accounting, managing accounts, and working directly with government agencies, banks, customers, and other internal accounting functions. The Staff Accountant must show customer service skills, computer skills, mathematical skills, and literacy skills commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position’s primary duties and responsibilities. Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior accounting positions or through transfer to skilled trades.

How You’ll Make a Difference

• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
• Prepares periodic (monthly) journal entries to general ledger.
• Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
• Reconciles cash disbursement accounts and bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
• Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
• Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
• Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
• Financial Analysis as needed for operational departments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Smarts, Skills. And Physical Requirements

• 4-year degree from an accredited school (will consider candidates with less education that have a demonstrated history of strong performance and the required skills).
• Proficient in Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to independently work effectively and efficiently.
• Process Improvement – either knowledge of or a willingness to learn.
• Experience with Vista / Viewpoint software is a BIG bonus.
