Risk Management Director manages and administers an organization's risk-management programs. Implements policies, procedures, and controls to monitor and minimize the risk exposure of assets.     As a Director of Financial Risk Management, you will support the VP of Risk Management in providing oversight of the financial risk management processes of Empower, including Enterprise Risk Management, Asset Liability Management, and Capital Management. You'll lead a small team to identify and quantify current and emerging risks by leveraging and modernizing existing processes to protect the organization and our customers.

    What you will do:

    • Execute on financial risk management strategy to protect the organization, and our customers, from current and emerging risks
    • Provide oversight of the financial risk management of Empower including market risk, credit risk, insurance risk, and model risk
    • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of the risk profile, risk limits, risk budgets, and Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA)
    • Collaborate with business leaders to manage the organization's capital position through regular projections of capital ratios (Risk-Based Capital, RBC) and ensuring efficient capital utilization and deployment
    • Evaluate capital implications of business decisions and monitor regulatory developments affecting RBC and/or capital
    • Provide oversight of the organization's Asset Liability Management (ALM) and hedge programs by reporting ALM positions, strategies, risks, and hedge effectiveness to the ALM Committee (ALCO) and other senior management committees
    • Assess the organization's exposure to market risks and considerations for hedging. Provides recommendations to business leaders based on assessments
    • Assist with new product initiatives and projects to ensure that financial risks are considered and appropriately mitigated as Empower grows through acquisitions or organically
    • Conduct various activities related to enterprise model risk validation and model governance, including maintaining a model risk inventory
    • Develop and manage relationships with functional leaders to ensure effective collaboration with all business units. Effectively challenge the first lines of defense and influence adoption of prudent risk practices and a strong risk management culture
    • Manage small team of actuaries to ensure alignment to department priorities and further develop technical and business skills. Responsible for developing and supporting actuarial students as they pursue completion of actuarial exams


    What you will bring:

    • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, or Mathematics, or related field
    • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in risk, product, valuation, actuarial, or investment departments
    • Experience at a financial service and/or life insurance company preferred
    • Experience in Asset Liability Management, hedging, and /or capital management
    • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and/or Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) designation preferred

    Base Salary Range

    $132,600.00 - $192,300.00

    The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
