Vice President of Risk and Litigation Management

  • DevCo is seeking a full-time VP of Risk and Litigation Management to join our team in Bellevue, WA. The VP of Risk and Litigation Management provides leadership, direction and coordination of the property-related risk management functions for the Devco Residential companies. Leads the Risk and Litigation Management department in collaborating with the organization and coordinating outside counsel regarding eviction and other property-related litigation. Establishes, implements, and monitors the organization’s enterprise risk, and insurance programs. Researches and reports on cost-effective plans to minimize liability. Works cooperatively with all departments on legal, risk, and insurance needs and claims.

    Pay Details:
    $160K-$220K bonus potential.


    Schedule:
    Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.


    Job Responsibilities:


    • Identify future needs of department and organization; take appropriate steps to communicate the same to senior management.
    • Provide evaluation, guidance, and proposed mitigation strategies or potential risks in contractual, regulatory, compliance, financial, legal and insurance areas.
    • Oversee the property, liability and workers compensation coverage for the organization. Formulate limits, layers, terms, and conditions of insurance program for approval by senior management. Manage brokers and place coverage.
    • Direct the oversight of risk identification and reduction programs, working in partnership with internal and external resources. Ensure that prompt action is taken where needed to minimize loss within established policies and procedures. Facilitate the development of enterprise risk management plans as appropriate.
    • Direct claims administration process. Provide expertise and guidance to department staff and other stakeholders with respect to policy interpretation and settlement processes. Coordinate settlement of insured claims involving litigation. Act as liaison to insurance carriers and staff of Devco Residential Group and affiliated companies to bring satisfactory closure to all lawsuits covered under general or professional liability policies.
    • Provide annual premium allocation of portfolio insurance costs, designating appropriate distribution to properties and corporate entities according to established procedures. Respond to outside parties of interest such as investors, lenders, regulatory agencies, and auditors to provide accurate representation of coverage and costs.
    • Establish process for staff and outside counsel to assure compliance with Devco Residential Group standards.
    • Develop, implement, improve, and review legal, ethical, and compliance processes, procedures, and training. Research legal issues impacting the organization by identifying applicable statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.

    Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
    • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree optional.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and/or coordinating corporate legal matters with a minimum of 5 years of experience in real estate and construction risk management.
    • Experience in one of the following required: real estate development, property management, construction or insurance.
    • Must be able to speak, read and write English in a manner sufficient to carry out duties.
    • Successful completion of background check and drug screen required.
    • Must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. meeting I-9 guidelines.
