The job duties of the Risk Reduction Specialist include but are not limited to develop, coordinate, and present a Kansas Department of Corrections approved evidence-based curriculum for Adult Offenders supervised by the 8th Judicial District Community Corrections; assist clients with community resources; and eliminate supervision barriers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (required):
1. Participate in the development and presentation of cognitive behavioral life skills curriculums.
2. Monitor attendance of participants referred or ordered to complete cognitive behavioral programming.
3. Maintain client progress notes for submission to Intensive Supervision Officers.
4. Maintain data for submission to the Director.
5. Create documentation on program accomplishments for the Court, the Corrections Advisory Board, and the Kansas Department of Corrections.
6. Establish and maintain open communication with participants, officers, and the Court.
7. Maintain a good working relationship with all community agencies as well as the public.
8. Due to the volume, scope, size of staff and nature of public service this office provides, full-time regular and dependable attendance is essential.
9. Ability to work outside the “normal” 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday - Friday schedule is required.
10. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, and the ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of Kansas.
The employee must have a thorough knowledge of computer software, a working knowledge of Kansas criminal law, as well as a strong understanding of the related Kansas Administrative Rule and Regulations. The position requires the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment; Personal Computer and related software, copier, facsimile, multi-line phone, shredder, printer, scanner, and others as may be required for the performance of duties
The employee must have excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of office practices, and organizational and oral communication skills. The position requires the ability to read, comprehend and write in the English language. . Ability to read, comprehend, retain, and apply County, State, and Federal policies, statutes, mandates, legislations, and others (such as but not limited to; local resolutions and ordinances, procedure manuals, warning labels).
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, counseling, or closely related field. Minimum of one (1) year experience working in the criminal justice field. Group facilitation experience required. Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skill and ability may be accepted.
Participate in a minimum of 40 job-related hours of training each fiscal year, as funding allows.
Must pass criminal background check, including Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check.
