    SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB: 

    The Legal & Risk Management Associate is a mid-level apprenticeship and is a two-year-on-the-job training opportunity. Under the supervision of the CAC VP & General Counsel, this position assists with the development and oversight of the legal operations management and company-wide enterprise risk management and commercial insurance programs.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS / ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

    • Understands business operations, can identify legal concerns and risk exposures.
      • Collaborates with the Risk and Legal Teams on the design, implementation and monitoring of legal operations, safety, loss prevention and claims management programs.
      • Provides appropriate and timely information to management for prioritizing and guiding decision-making.
      • Assists with reviewing contracts to assess potential liabilities and elevates to supervisor, as appropriate.
      • Assists in the documentation and maintenance of internal legal and risk management procedures and processes.
      • Assists in the gathering and compiling of insurance renewal information and policy audit information for the corporation and its subsidiaries.
      • Assists with management of the company-wide insurance and records management program.
      • Manages certificates of insurance for Corporate and other entities.
      • Identifies problems and assists with the implementation of risk solutions to optimize operations.
      • Participates in meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job duties.
      • Assists with accounting insurance to include allocation and audits.
      • Attends Shareholder Program Participant meetings.
      • Supports various regional shareholder events as directed.
      • Performs related duties as assigned.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):
    MANDATORY 

    • Chugach Alaska Corporation shareholder or descendant of a shareholder. 
    • Three (3) years of professional level experience in legal support or research, safety, risk management or a related position.
    • Demonstrated intermediate skills in the use of MS Office Suite such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, PowerPoint as well as database programs.\
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
    • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to obtain Chugach’s Training Without Walls certification within one year of employment.

     

    Knowledge Of: a variety of concepts, practices and procedures relating to risk management and safety; the use of common office machinery including copiers, fax machines, and computers.

    Ability To: maintain strict confidence; prioritize projects and complete in accordance with established deadlines; perform duties in a timely, cost-effective manner; provide appropriate follow up; balance multiple tasks and deal with interruptions; perform/evaluate various types of analysis; work professionally with a variety of people and personalities; communicate effectively orally and in writing; complete all mandated training requirements per corporate management directives.
