      Job Summary
      Assists Foreman, Assistant Foreman and Leads in assuring timely and quality work performed in the Carpentry Department. Assures proper materials, tools, and equipment is available and used according to safety procedures and standards. Assures for safe working conditions. Installs and repairs roofs and associated work. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.

      Essential Functions
      • Performs work on Capital Outlay and Maintenance projects as assigned.
      • Installs and repairs all types of roofs, including fiberglass shingles, build-up, EPEM, PVC, metal single ply and torch down.
      • Installs and repairs rain gutters and downspouts.
      • Replaces skylights.
      • Repairs roof drains.
      • Installs and repairs roof hatches.
      • Installs and repairs bases for swamp coolers and HVAC cooling units.
      • Repair fascia and soffits.

      • Must be skilled in oral and written communications and interpersonal relations.
      • Must be able to plan work and organize materials and equipment for specific projects.
      • Must be able to withstand the pressures of emergencies and appropriate solutions.
      • Must be able to read blueprints and drawings and possess specific knowledge of building construction and maintenance of facilities.
      • May coordinate with contract services vendors and material vendors.
      • Makes recommendations about how projects may be performed.
      • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, drills, saws, forklifts, etc.
      • Must have good working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes including pertinent aspects of OSHA, EPA, MSDS, and ADA.
      • Must have basic mathematical skills.
      • Must keep abreast of changing developments in techniques in relevant fields.

      Assigned Decision Making
      Consults with administrators, teachers, co-workers, and patrons to assist in timely completion of projects. Assures that each assignment has sufficient tools, materials, and supplies. Assists with inventory ordering and issuing. Determines repairs and replacements of equipment. Assists with hiring and employee evaluations. Prioritizes work for specific jobs. Determines the safety of specific equipment when completing projects.

      Interactions with Others
      Interacts positively with students, teachers, principals, district personnel and other outside vendors or agencies.

      Supervisory Responsibility
      May supervise work crews on specific projects.

      Budget Responsibility
      Financially responsible to maintain and track purchase card usage and follow purchasing guidelines.
      Maintaining and tracking of inventory.

      Working Environment
      May be subject to high locations, awkward positions, heat, noise, dirt, chemicals, confined spaces, and cold. May experience occasional stress from emergencies and in meeting project deadlines. Some district emergencies may require additional irregular hours. Interruptions may occur while performing work requiring accuracy and concentration.

      Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:
      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
