Education Center Operator Assistant
Essential Functions:
Center Oversight:
- Ensures that clients have access, as needed, to all five pillars of the social determinants of health with a trauma informed lens through Agency services and/or community partners.
- Assist with oversight of day-to-day operations of assigned Head Start Center to ensure operations conform to Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Licensing Minimum Standards, agency policies and procedures. Identify service gaps and/or duplication in services to facilitate a well-coordinated service delivery system within the Head Start program and throughout the agency; and establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. Support the effective implementation of all content areas, implementing all relevant policies and procedures.
- Assist with managing the collection of data and service questionnaires/surveys through the completion of data and contractual tracking through the data management system and/or other tracking systems required by contract or agency needs correctly and on time.
- Assist with the assurance that the mandated staff-to-child ratio is maintained at all times in accordance with agency policy and procedures, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Licensing Minimum Standards.
- Assist with the coordination of maintenance and janitorial resources to ensure that a safe and clean environment is maintained throughout the center facility and premises.
- Assist the Education Center Operator to identify, cultivate, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with key partners, community collaborators, community programs, and families.
- Prioritize workload, manage time, and meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Assist in identifying and securing funds that enhance and expand program implementation efforts and overall development of Head Start services. Assist with pproviding oversight, record keeping and reporting of center in-kind contributions from parents and/or community members.
- Assist with maintaining and overseeing assigned budgets. Assist with record keeping and reporting of purchasing and tracking of supplies and equipment, staff timekeeping, and attendance.
School Readiness:
- Assist with oversight of classroom settings, instructional practices, daily activities, including nutritional guidelines, to ensure they are appropriate to the safety, developmental learning, social and physical needs of young children and are in accordance with agency policy and Head Start Program Performance Standards and Licensing Minimum Standards.
- Provide assistance with oversight of implementation of a quality curriculum and effective instructional practices adhering to Head Start Program Performance Standards, Licensing Minimum Standards, special education laws, and agency standards.
Supervision:
- Assist with the recruitment, interviewing, training and placement of Head Start staff and volunteers, and the identification and recruitment of Head Start enrollment and participation. Support teaching staff in understanding child outcomes data and using it to improve practice and outcomes. Provide staff with coaching and support for quality improvement and professional growth through regular observation and formal and informal feedback.
- In collaboration with the Education Center Operator, supervise staff by monitoring accountability responsibilities including, but not limited to, activity or service reports and documentation, approval of timesheets, travel, requests for paid time off, and training registrations; conduct individual development plans and performance appraisals; and structure staff development training and provide coaching for ongoing development.
- Assist with the coordination of the arrival and dismissal of children at the Head Start center in accordance with agency policy and Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Licensing Minimum Standards.
Agency Responsibilities:
- Represent the agency at meetings with groups and partners as requested.
- Maintain good relationships with stakeholders, current and potential Head Start children and their families, community and co-workers, focusing on providing excellent and culturally sensitive customer service and always presenting a positive image of the agency.
- Maintain a working environment which encourages mutual respect, promotes respectful and congenial relationships between employees and is free from all forms of harassment.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including presentations to community groups and organizations, in accordance with the agency’s “team” philosophy.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training/Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development; or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development or other related human service field with 18 hours of Early Childhood Development
- Current CPR and First Aid.
- Two (2) years previous experience teaching children ages birth to five.
- Fluency in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) desirable.
- Staff will be required to submit proof of their vaccination status or may request to be exempt from vaccination due to a religious and/or medical accommodation.
- Certificate or license, as applicable, by the appropriate State agency as a qualified practitioner.
- State of Texas vehicle operator’s license and proof of liability insurance.
