Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Description

    Job Summary: The Director of Safety oversees and manages the company's safety program. This role involves providing training, conducting inspections, investigating accidents, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Director of Safety serves as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters and collaborates with various stakeholders to promote a safe and healthful work environment.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Training and Education:

    • Provide comprehensive safety and health training to managers, supervisors, and employees.
    • Develop and deliver training programs on accident prevention, hazard recognition, and emergency procedures.
    • Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) to track and manage employee training records.

    Workplace Inspections:

    • Conduct inspections of Branches, job sites, and warehouses to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Collaborate with management to address and correct any identified safety deficiencies.
    • Prepare notices and summaries for management to issue for the abatement of hazards and unsafe conditions.

    Promotional Activities:

    • Promote safe work practices by working closely with the Director of Construction, Regional Branch Managers, and the Marketing Director.
    • Utilize company promotional materials and administer recognition systems to incentivize safe behavior and performance.

    Accident Investigation:

    • Assist stakeholders, management, and supervisors in investigating accidents and near misses.
    • Analyze root causes of incidents and develop measures to prevent recurrence.
    • Ensure timely and thorough reporting of accidents through the Safety Management Information System (HSI).

    Fleet:

    • Serve as a key contact in the purchasing and selling of company vehicles.
    • Prepare new vehicles for use including logo wrapping, roof-rack installation, etc.
    • Work with Safety and HR departments on accident investigation including filing claims with insurance and following up on repairs and insurance payments.
    • Collaborate with supervisors and staff to manage and reduce expenses such as those for fuel and labor costs.
    • Establish a schedule for recommended replacement of fleet vehicles.
    • Draft and present reports on department operations and expenses.
    • Register and insure all new vehicles.
    • Maintain detailed records of servicing and inspection. Send reminders to drivers when inspections or service appointments are due.
    • Comply and enforce the Company’s Fleet Safety Policy.
    • Monitor GPS system for speeding alerts.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with preferred vendors.

    Recordkeeping and Compliance:

    • Maintain accurate records of all accidents, injuries, and illnesses using the HSI.
    • Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and log all relevant incidents in the OSHA log.
    • Verify that all subcontractors have up-to-date training and are in compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Required Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
    • Working knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
    • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
    • Observation ability and outstanding attention to detail.
    • Valid Driver’s License.

    Education and Experience

    • 5 years of experience
    • Associate's degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent working experience.
    • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety OR Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to climb ladder and traverse roof at times.
    • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of construction site in various types of weather.
