SAFETY MANAGER plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Being a SAFETY MANAGER designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Additionally, SAFETY MANAGER studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Requires a bachelor's degree of occupational safety and health or related degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The SAFETY MANAGER manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Job Description:
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all transportation regulations that impact ULS's daily operations and effectively communicate current DOT and ULS rules/guidelines to staff and drivers.
Analyze and evaluate any new laws, regulations, changes or interpretations that may impact ULS's business practices.
Conduct regular assessments of ULS terminal locations to evaluate their operations and enforce ULS's safety policies and regulations.
Provide support and guidance to ULS drivers, ensuring compliance with all DOT and ULS rules and regulations.
Review load securement photos and inspect vehicles and trailers for any potential DOT violations.
Coach ULS drivers through performance improvement plans, prioritizing the safety of ULS drivers, customers and the general public.
Foster positive working relationships and collaborate with other company departments to address any driver/safety-related issues promptly and effectively.
Job Requirements:
At least 5 years previous experience in transportation/trucking
Strong interest in safety
Relationship building skills to forge personal connections with customers, vendors, employees and truck drivers.
Ability to travel to customer locations , job sites, ULS terminals and other driver rest areas.
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in DOT regulations related to safety, hours of service related to a CMV.
