Safety Specialist implements, manages and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions. Being a Safety Specialist ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures. Collects data and reports on all safety and accident events. Additionally, Safety Specialist may have additional responsibility for fire prevention, hazardous waste management, resource conservation, or other safety related activities depending on the industry and location. As an OE Safety Specialist, you'll reinforce and further our culture of excellence and results. You will be instrumental in reinforcing our culture of excellence and safety, focusing on teamwork, public and individual safety, and environmental protection.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Directly support and collaborate with the Engineering & Construction team on construction safety. (This position also works closely with Operations and Measurement teams as well.)
· Evaluate potential risks and incidents in collaboration with E&C Leadership.
· Act as an E&C primary point of contact for OE and Safety queries and a liaison for safety software programs.
· Support OE Safety projects and initiatives.
· Be involved in all phases of incident investigations when called upon.
· Provide training on risk-reducing tools and monitor safety goals.
· Conduct safety assessments & inspections for E&C projects and review contractor safety documentation.
· Participate in planning kickoff meetings and manage contract safety personnel.
· Ensure consistency in contractor safety processes and promote best practices.
· Plan, lead and participate in job site safety meetings.
Requirements: Education and/or experience, knowledge, skills and abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., engineering/science, occupational safety and health sciences) or comparable experience.
· 6 years of experience including 3 years of experience in construction, with knowledge of industry regulations (e.g., API, DOT, OSHA PSM, PHMSA).
· Certification in safety-related fields (e.g., CSP, CSHO) is preferred.
· Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with industry-standard safety software.
· Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills.
· Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to trendspotting and improvements.
· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Willingness for frequent travel including overnight stays, and availability for 24/7 call-out.
Working Conditions:
· Travel requirement up to 80%, including overnight stays.
· Regular exposure to industrial/field settings, requiring use of personal protective equipment.
