Position Summary:
The Safety & Transport Technician provides clinical support services to various disciplines including but not limited to nursing, radiology, and physical therapy. Routine responsibilities include transporting patients to and from patient care areas, providing one-on-one observation, and assisting in the progression of patient mobility.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Reviews requests for transportation of patients.
• Prepares patient for transport to and from patient care areas, making special considerations for patients in contact and/or airborne precautions.
• Utilizes body mechanics and safe moving techniques for transferring or lifting patients.
• Uses the appropriate equipment and method of patient transfer after consideration of the patient’s ability to provide assistance, bear weight, cooperate, follows directions, height/weight, special circumstances, and MD orders.
• Promotes the progression of patient Transport through safe patient transfer assistance, therapeutic exercises, and Transport activities.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of equipment within the Nursing, Radiology Departments, and Physical Therapy Department.
• Provides 1:1 continuous supervision (as assigned) to patients who require observation for safety reasons in the absence of family or caregivers. Patients may be high risk for falls, delirious/demented, experiencing withdrawal symptoms, and/or suicidal ideations.
• Establishes and maintains a safe environment conductive to effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes, and personal/patient safety.
• Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple priorities when necessary.
• Maintains clear lines of communication in order to ensure patient safety, care coordination, and teamwork.
• Responds to calls for assistance in a timely, customer-friendly manner.
Education:
Graduate from high school or equivalent (GED).
Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification:
Basic Life Support certification (BLS).
