Sales Director directs sales organization operations and develops the tactics, operational plans, and processes to implement the organizational sales strategy, drive revenue growth, and accomplish financial objectives. Establishes and implements processes, tools, and structures to support the sales organization's operations. Being a Sales Director oversees goal setting for departmental and group levels of the sales organization and uses data and technology to measure and monitor sales processes, identify issues, and enhance performance. Implements methods and systems to effectively analyze and monitor the industry, business environment, and competitors and expand the customer base. Additionally, Sales Director uses market and customer insights to collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and suggest new products. Builds effective sales and support teams with recruiting, mentoring, and development programs. May personally participate in or negotiate strategic or high-value sales. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Sales Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Sales Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Develop and implement the total sales and marketing strategy of the hotel to ensure that revenue and room night sales goals are achieved; revenue, sales and marketing strategies are set; tactical plans are created and implemented; and that results are monitored and achieved.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Prospecting

    • Cold calls and sales calls- goal of 20 quality calls per week
    • Prospecting to determine needs
    • Solicitation by telephone directory, internet
    • Development of all leads
    • Pursue the local papers for any type of business, meetings, weddings, etc.
    • Recommendations and referrals from existing accounts
    • Contact various prospects lists, hotel vendors
    • Site visits
    • Tracking competitor reader boards

    Servicing Accounts

    • Always have completed sales convention kits made and easily available to give to clients
    • Provide high quality products and service to guests
    • Analyze ultimate potential of the account. Set specific goals for increasing the volume of business
    • Listen to needs and obtain valuable operational information from each account in order to prepare accurate prep sheets and communicate the needs to the operational departments
    • Handle clients complaints tactfully and expeditiously
    • Suggest packages and alternate dates if during peak demand periods
    • Check and replenish promotional material and promotional items
    • Impress, train and educate accounts and their employees in the best way to utilize our property
    • Complete sales contact reports and follow up call reports promptly for weekly review
    • Keep accurate records and turn in reports for calls made, time worked, expenses, new accounts, new bookings, proposals, tentative and cancellations, sales contracts, BEO’s
    • Ensure that guarantee numbers are received 72 hours in advance of any function.
    • Create banquet checks for posting of the account on the day of the function
    • Send follow up service letters to all accounts
    • Ensure that the meeting rooms as set as requested by the meeting planner, include diagrams whenever necessary
    • Ensure that controls re in place for group events with alcohol, schedule appropriate security as required by the type of group

    Company Relations

    • Complete accurate daily sales reports and submit weekly
    • Keep the office informed on complaints and praise concerning quality service
    • Deploy new and effective sales methods and ideas
    • Rush proposals and set up bookings and contracts promptly
    • Coordinate and convey all details and information necessary to other hotel departments
    • Complete a sales resume form on each group coming into the hotel, distribute at the weekly staff meeting
    • Complete a weekly schedule of events of upcoming meetings and events, distribute at the weekly staff meeting
    • Represent the company at function and meetings in a professional manner searching for new contacts and leads
    • Record all new business on appropriate logs, files, collect business cards, check credit references on direct bill accounts
    • Tours of the hotel and be informed of capacities for guest room commitments and maximums for meeting rooms.
    • Participate as an executive manager in all staff meetings
    • Other duties as requested or assigned

    Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Appropriate hotel experience of 5 years
    • Minimum of 3 years progressive sales management experience
    • Professional behavior and appearance
    • Strong verbal and written communication
    • Significant attention to detail
    • Complete understanding of bottom line profitability and budget goals

    Physical Requirements

    • Basic gross motor skills and mobility
    • Minimal lifting and carrying
    • Travel throughout hotel during shift
    • Must be able to change activity frequently
