This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time offer.
**NOTE: Yuma County reserves the right to underfill the Registered Sanitarian (Grade 14 Min: $26.87 - Mid: $33.59/hr.) as Sanitarian Aide, until such time as the successful candidate completes all education and training requirements.
NATURE OF WORK
Under direct supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in the environmental health field assisting Registered Sanitarians in providing environmental sanitation control services; responsible for permitting, monitoring compliance and other related duties with Environmental Programs focusing on on-site water systems, solid waste, and public health related nuisances.
(Illustrative Only) Reviews and utilizes site investigations to determine feasibility for use of on-site wastewater systems on residential and commercial properties; conducts technical reviews of permit applications to determine compliance with applicable county and state law; reads, interprets, and applies applicable provisions of codes, laws, ordinances, and statutes; conducts construction inspections of on-site wastewater systems to ensure minimum standards are met; investigates environmental nuisance complaints, recommends solutions, and ensures compliance with state laws and ordinances; submits reports detailing items of noncompliance for correction; prepares and maintains manual and computer-based files of materials reviewed and related materials; assists Registered Sanitarians in providing environmental sanitation control services; assists in conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations; prepares reports, maintains records and utilizes computer data bases; regular and reliable attendance is required.; performs other duties as assigned.
Thirty (30) semester hours of post-high school course work in natural sciences, environmental health, or related field; AND one (1) year work experience in environmental health or related field; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license; requires successful completion of a background check.

Knowledge of Yuma County organization, operations, policies, and procedures; relevant federal, state, and county codes, laws, and regulations pertaining to environmental health and sanitation; biological and physical science applicable to environmental health; filed inspection methods and techniques.
Skill preparing reports and presenting facts clearly, orally and in writing; maintaining complete and accurate records; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; follow written and verbal instructions; lift forty (40) pounds, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stand, and walk over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; perform other body movements consistent with the job responsibilities and work outdoors exposed to extreme climate.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally the job requires 30% bending, 20% walking, 20% stooping and 30% standing. The job is performed under varying extreme weather conditions.
