Summer School Nurse Aide

  • Job SummaryThe Rhodes School (TRS) is the only magnet Charter in Houston educating students through music and art. We are seeking a Summer School Nurse Aide to assist with summer school. In this position, you will primarily work to provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students and staff of TRS. Our ideal applicant has prior experience working with students in a similar position. 

    Duties and Responsibilities:  

    1.

    • Responsible for administering medication to students prescribed by a family physician. Administer medication according to TRS policy and procedures.

    2.

    • Notify parents of accidents or illnesses and obtain medical assistance for emergent situations that occur on campus. 

    3. 

    • Perform annual screenings based on Texas regulatory requirements. Make referrals as necessary.

    4.

    • Develop and coordinate the evaluation of the school’s health program and recommend changes based on outcomes.

    5.

    • Provide health counseling and instructions to students

    6.

    • Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse. 

    7.

    • Review students’ immunization records to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.

    8.

    • Maintain accurate documentation and record of students’ health matters in our school system and student files. 

    9.

    • Report potential health and safety matters to the campus principal. 

    10.

    • Compile monthly data report tracking all accidents and injuries for students and staff.  

    11.

    • Adhere to all policies and procedures by federal, state, Texas Department of Health and the Board of Education.

    Education:  Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. 

    Valid registered nurse license (CNA) from the state of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners preferred.

    Must have valid certification to conduct hearing and vision screenings and be CPR certified. 


    Work Experience:  Two years of nursing experience; preferably in an education setting or community health preferred.

    ✔ Teachers and staff  

    ✔ Students and parents 


    Equipment Used: Microsoft Office, Eduphoria, Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier). General Knowledge of accounting procedures, district policies, and school law.


    Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.  Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
