There is an open nursing position at the Lunenburg Public Schools - pending programmatic approval TITLE: School Nurse GENERAL: Reports to: Principal and Nursing Coordinator Description: Provide health services to students- mild/acute illness, or support students with chronic illnesses, treatment of injuries, and administration of medications Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding and healthcare concerns. Review health records for proper medical and immunization documentation. Develop and monitor Individual Healthcare Plans for students with healthcare needs that may impact their academic performance and or attendance. Conduct mandated school health screenings and refer students for follow-up. Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff. Assist with COVID activities which may include contact tracing and support for isolation and quarantine for students and staff Ensure compliance with state and federal health mandates and guidance. Provide health services to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning in the individual students. Collaborate with other specialist and educators to support the mental, emotional and social determinants of learning. Promote an optimal level of wellness of students and staff by providing preventive health services to facilitate the students and staff’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identify problems and disabilities and provide such services as case finding, health education, referring, and care in order to help prevent serious health problems and manage current chronic conditions. REQUIREMENTS Successful candidates will possess a valid, current nursing license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and the appropriate Educator’s License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. CPR certification as well as a minimum of three years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in a child health, community health, or other pertinent clinical nursing setting is required. School nursing experience is preferred, but not required.
