      The Principal promotes the educational well-being of each student by building and maintaining a school environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each student.

      Essential Functions:
      • Acts ethically and professionally in personal conduct, relationships with others, decision-making, stewardship of the school’s resources, and all aspects of school leadership.
      • Addresses student misconduct in a positive, fair, and unbiased manner.
      • Advocates for the school and district, and for the importance of education and student needs and priorities to families and the community.
      • Builds and maintains a safe, caring, and healthy school environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each student.
      • Develops an educational mission for the school to promote the academic success and well-being of each student.
      • Develops and manages productive relationships with the central office and school board.
      • Develops teachers’ and staff members’ professional knowledge, skills, and practice through differentiated opportunities for learning and growth, guided by understanding of professional and adult learning and development.
      • Empowers and entrusts teachers and staff with collective responsibility for meeting the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each student, pursuant to the mission, vision, and core values of the school.
      • Engages others in an ongoing process of evidence-based inquiry, learning, strategic goal setting, planning, implementation, and evaluation for continuous school and classroom improvement.
      • Ensures that each student has equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support, and other resources necessary for success.
      • Fosters continuous improvement of individual and collective instructional capacity to achieve outcomes envisioned for each student.
      • Implements coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment that promote the mission, vision, and core values of the school, embody high expectations for student learning, align with academic standards, and are culturally responsive.
      • Leads with interpersonal and communication skill, social emotional insight, and understanding of all students’ and staff members’ backgrounds and cultures.
      • Manages school operations and resources to promote each student’s academic success and well-being.
      • Maintains appropriate communication with the Superintendent’s office in all matters impacting the well-being of a child or school.
      • Places children at the center of education and accept responsibility for each student’s academic success and well-being.
      • Plans and supervises the school’s emergency preparedness program.
      • Promotes instructional practice that is consistent with knowledge of child learning and development, effective pedagogy, and the needs of each student.
      • Promotes the effective use of technology in the service of teaching and learning.
      • Provides opportunities for collaborative examination of practice, collegial feedback, and collective learning.
      • Recruits, hires, supports, develops, evaluates and retains effective and caring teachers and other professional staff and form them into an educationally effective faculty.
      • Strategically manages staff resources, assigning and scheduling teachers and staff to roles and responsibilities that optimize their professional capacity to address each student’s learning needs.
      • Uses assessment data appropriately and within technical limitations to monitor student progress and improve instruction.
      • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

      PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND VISUAL ACUITY:
      The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical requirements: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The physical activities include: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
      The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:
      None: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
      Exempt: 11-month contract
      Salary and employment terms as established by the Governing Board.

      EVALUATION:
      Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with District policy.
