    REPORTS TO:  Superintendent 
     
    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Sheridan School District No. 2 is seeking an outstanding principal who will provide continued leadership for Alice Terry Elementary School to serve at-risk students at the primary level.  This position is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the entire instructional program including student achievement, supervision and evaluation of school personnel, financial and facilities management and the general overall progress of students and staff. 
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership
    1. Provides elementary education services that respond to the unique needs of at-risk students, promote educational and social emotional growth and success, and comply with state and federal requirements.
    2. Leads in the development and use of challenging student performance standards and the development of fair and accurate assessment methods. 
    3. Expects and coaches effective classroom practices; supervises and coordinates the instructional program of the school. Expertise in early literacy is a requirement of the position.
    4. Oversees the development and use of curricula and the instructional interaction of staff and students.
    5. Uses data to analyze the current rate of learning; serves as a catalyst and manager of needed change.
    6. Promotes a school climate conducive to a positive learning environment through planning, implementation and assessment.
    7. Facilitates and promotes the effective resolution of conflicts and problems; plans and conducts staff and other necessary meetings.
    8. Sets and encourages high expectations of students and staff.
    9. Promotes best placement practices and decision making for all students.

    Management
    1. Directs and supervises the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel; conducts or oversees personnel performance evaluations.
    2. Recruits and screens potential employees.
    3. Makes recommendations on employment, retention and termination to the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
    4. Creates or oversees creation of student and staff schedules and assignments.
    5. Prepares or causes to be prepared all required federal, state and local reports.
    6. Provides for professional development opportunities for all staff.
    7. Responsible for handling all discipline matters in the building. 
    8. Oversees the safety and security of the building, including management of the building emergency response team and conducting monthly/quarterly safety drills.
    9. Conducts activities relative to the financial aspects of the school program including development and maintenance of the school budget and related accounting procedures.
    10. Provides overall management of the facility, involving appropriate school or District personnel as appropriate.

    Human Relations
    1. Establishes behavioral expectations for students and staff toward the creation of a respectful and civil environment.
    2. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with and among the school staff and community 
    3. Establishes and maintains effective communications vehicles and systems so as to insure clarity of purpose and information.
    4. Actively promotes positive attention to behaviors which recognize and appreciate the diversity of the total school community.
    5. Active involvement of students, parents, and staff in the operation of the alternative education program to ensure the success of each student.
    6. Works closely with the social worker and mental health providers to ensure a trauma informed approach to student programming.

    Professional Responsibilities
    1. Supports the Superintendent in creating unified teams throughout the district.         
    2. Seeks and participates in professional development activities.
    3. Provides a presence at program-related functions outside the regular school day.
    4. Accepts responsibility and opportunities for participation in District-level activities such as task forces, special committees and the like.
    5. Conducts on-going self-assessment of personal performance and takes positive action on that assessment.
    6. Acts consistently in a professional manner that reflects the stature and importance of the leadership role of the principal.
    7. Responsible for promoting and marketing Alice Terry Elementary School, ensuring students are enrolled into the school on a quarterly basis.
    8. Performs other applicable duties as requested

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    Supervises, disciplines and evaluates personnel, schedules and directs work, makes hiring and termination recommendations, provides some training.
     
    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Education and Experience
    Master’s Degree in Education or like field preferred.
    One to five years’ experience preferred.
    Fluent in Spanish preferred.
     
    License or Certification
    Appropriate licensure as required by the state of Colorado.

    ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    Frequent talking, sitting, walking, standing; occasional reaching, bending and kneeling.  Occasional lifting 5 to 10 pounds.  This job is performed in generally a clean and health environment with some noise.

    CLEARANCE:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.

    SALARY:

    Placement on Range 6 of the Administrative Salary Schedule is between $97,784 -  $128,066 per year based upon previous related experience. Current Board approved Administrative Salary Schedule is available forreview on our district website atwww.ssd2.org.  Highest initial step placement on the Administrative Salary Schedule is Step 9.


    BENEFITS:
    Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week in the 2023/2024 school year are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits.  Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned.  Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by statute to contribute 11% of salary on a pre-tax basis to PERA.  The District also contributes a 21% in addition to the employee contribution.
