Seamstress - Casino is responsible for constructing, altering, repairing, or modifying garments for customers based on their specifications, needs, and preferences. Completes work within deadlines to ensure altered merchandise is sewn, pressed, and checked for imperfections. Additionally, Seamstress - Casino may require a high school diploma or equivalent. Position Summary
Alter and repair made-to-measure or ready-to-wear uniforms.
Supervision Exercised
Reports to the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor (Wardrobe).
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Repairs or replaces defective uniform parts, such as pockets, pocket flaps, buttons and linings.
- Presses garment, using hand iron or pressing machine.
- Records required alterations and instructions.
- Inserts or eliminates padding in shoulders while maintaining drape and proportions of garment.
- Removes stitches from garment, using ripper or razor blade.
- Studies garment on customer and measures pieces, such as sleeves, pants, and hems, using tape measure.
- Shortens or lengthens garment parts.
- Expands or narrows garment parts.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent oral and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to operate a sewing machine.
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position.
- The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a sewing machine to exact positions.
- The ability to see details at close range.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED certification.
- Three (3) years seamstress or sewing machine operator experience.
Licensing Status
- Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
- Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors.
- Work hours subject to change with overtime work required.
- Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm; smoke; diseases; cuts bruises, burns, common cold, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
- Duties may involve walking, standing, sitting and crouching for long periods of time.
- Specific required movements include the following:
- Trunk- bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry.
- Arms – reach, carry, lift, twist, and rotate.
- Legs – lift, push, pull, twist, and rotate.
- Hands – Grasp, manipulate bilateral coordination, hand and eye coordination, and overall and finger dexterity.
