The successful candidate will work closely with school administrators and law enforcement and be responsible for implementing and managing a safety and security program that addresses the unique needs of our school district. This position presents an opportunity for an experienced law enforcement or security professional who is committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for both students and staff. The Director of Safety and Security will be entrusted with the task of formulating and overseeing a comprehensive safety program that encompasses daily operations as well as strategic long-term objectives for district wide school safety, security, emergency management, risk management, access control, and transportation services. Minimum Qualifications: •A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field is required. •Significant experience (at least 5 years) in law enforcement, security management, or a related field is essential. This might include prior work as a law enforcement, security supervisor, or in a similar role. Supervisory experience required. •Familiarity with various security systems and technologies is crucial, including CCTV, access control systems, alarm systems, and emergency communication systems. •Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and vulnerability analysis of school facilities and develop appropriate security plans and protocols based on identified risks. •Proficiency in emergency management procedures and protocols, including lockdown procedures, evacuation plans, and coordination with emergency responders. •Understanding of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to school security and safety, including federal and state laws, as well as any local ordinances. •Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with school administrators, staff, students, parents, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders. •Ability to lead and train security personnel, as well as to collaborate effectively with other departments within the school or district. •Experience in managing crises and handling high-stress situations effectively. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services to ensure a well-prepared response to threats and emergencies. •Ability to engage with the school community and build positive relationships with students, parents, teachers, and community members to foster a safe and supportive environment. •Strong references attesting to the candidate's integrity, professionalism, and effectiveness in previous security or law enforcement roles. •Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, clean criminal record and background check. Duties and Responsibilities: •Overall management, strategic planning, development, evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of the district’s safety and security program. •Oversee mitigation, prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery phases of emergency management. Manage all security systems. •Conduct regular security audits and assessments of school facilities to identify potential vulnerabilities, develop strategies to address them. •Provide guidance and support to school administrators in handling security-related incidents and investigations. •Develop and deliver security awareness training and educational programs for staff and students. Supervise Security personnel. •Ability to manage budget and personnel. Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
