Shipping Operations Manager manages shipping operations' daily activities, including order processing, inventory tracking, documentation, and transportation oversight. Utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports. Being a Shipping Operations Manager ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping quality issues, damages, or lost freight claims. Additionally, Shipping Operations Manager develops and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Shipping Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Shipping Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The Shipping Manager will work closely with the Plant Manager to strategically oversee the efficiency of employees as well as inventory and production. - Review accuracy of shipments.
- Ensure employees are trained and direct team’s work performance.
- Implement employee reviews, discipline, and corrective actions.
- Optimize and efficient process for the flow of outbound and inbound material.
- Develop and manager shipping KPI’s.
- Take part in year-end and general inventory procedures.
Qualifications- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- 5 years of verifiable experience working in warehouse, shipping, or transportation operations at the management level.
- Ability to manage, coach, and provide training.
- Material Handling experience
- Strong ability to handle multiple projects at once, being flexible with change.
- Logical reasoning, critical thinking and analysis.
- Ability to enforce all company policies.
- Attention to detail.
- Has the ability to operate with limited level of direct supervision.
- Can exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, organize workload and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with Excel/MS Office a plus.
- Strong sense of Leadership
Physical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or listen. The employee frequently/continuously is required to sit, stand, bend, walk, utilize hand and finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, and continually utilize visual acuity to read information and use a keyboard.
