Shipping Operations Manager manages shipping operations' daily activities, including order processing, inventory tracking, documentation, and transportation oversight. Utilizes enterprise resource planning (ERP) or other systems to record and track all shipping transactions, analyze performance metrics, and generate reports. Being a Shipping Operations Manager ensures shipping protocols and documentation meet required regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) or special handling. Investigates and resolves shipping quality issues, damages, or lost freight claims. Additionally, Shipping Operations Manager develops and maintains relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and vendors. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Shipping Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Shipping Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Job Summary
The Shipping Manager will schedule all outbound shipments, provide leadership to our warehouse team and strive to keep transportation costs low. The successful candidate will also be responsible for prioritizing tasks to meet expected shipping dates and maintaining an accurate inventory.
Primary Functions and Duties
- Supervises and leads shipping team to meet the goals and objectives of the business.
- Manage an accurate inventory of warehouse materials.
- Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs.
- Effectively provides and promotes a "Safety First" culture in the workplace place. Ensures all machinery and safety devices and equipment are operable condition.
- Provides a safe environment through ensuring that proper housekeeping and organization is the culture that is promoted by supervision and management.
- Identify shipping issues and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- Schedule and track inbound and outgoing shipments.
- Recruit and train warehouse personnel.
- Ensure materials are delivered to sites in a timely manner as per clients’ criteria.
- Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs.
- Maintain customer service logs and safety records.
- Assist in post- accident investigations, including recording of event, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Manage an accurate inventory of warehouse materials.
Required Qualifications
- High School Degree with at least 5 years of logistics experience required.
- Management experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
- Hands-on mentality required.
- Forklift certification.
- Strong background in using ERP Software.
- Demonstrated understanding of consumer goods industry.
- Must be detail oriented with well developed organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership skills a must.
- Proficiency in MS Office

Physical Demands
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
