Shipping Specialist jobs in Galveston, TX
Shipping Specialist prepares shipping documentation and processes orders. Investigates and resolves shipping non-conformance. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Shipping Specialist works under moderate supervision. The Shipping & Receiving Coordinator I is primarily responsible for verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment by performing the essential job functions.
JOB DUTIES
Essential Job Functions:
The Shipping & Receiving Coordinator I will provide reliable and timely support in the following functions:
Warehouse Area:- Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Conveys materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas.
- Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
- Sorts and stores perishable goods in refrigerated rooms.
- Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.
- Marks materials with identifying information.
- Opens bales, crates, and other containers.
- Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
- Prepares parcels for mailing.
- Uses computer to enter records.
- Regularly make inventory transactions in Epicor ERP
- Schedule freight and parcel shipments
- Organize and fill out required shipping documents including, but not limited to SLIs, BOLs, etc.
- Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.
- All other duties as needed to assist the company in attaining its objectives.
Shipping and Receiving Area:- Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Determines method of shipment following customer instructions.
- Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers.
- Inserts items into containers.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
- Routes items to departments.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
SKILLS- Strong analytical thinking and systematic approach to problem solving.
- Computer literacy and database management skills, displaying ability to learn new systems and proficiency in MS Office products.
- Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on quality, efficiency, and thoroughness.
- Confident as an independent thinker, yet proactive in communication with others as needed to be successful in the role.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Able to function in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
QUALIFICATIONS- EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 1-3 years of shipping and receiving experience and/or training.
- EDUCATION – AS/AA, or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in related field of study is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education requirement or equivalent combination of preferred qualifications.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- REASONING ABILITY – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- COMPUTER SKILLS - Knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order Processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
