Being a Soil Scientist may require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. May direct the work of a small group of employees. Additionally, Soil Scientist relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Typically reports to a senior manager and may be considered the lead for a specific area or unit.     Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International, Inc. (ATL) has partnered with Navarro Research and Engineering, inc. to form Hanford Laboratories and Management Integration (HLMI). We are seeking applicants for Scientist I at the 222-S Laboratory, a DOE laboratory specializing in the analysis of highly radioactive samples. Work location is primarily at the 222-S laboratory facility in the 200W Area of the Hanford Site, with option to work remotely on occasion. There is an allowance for relocation expenses.

    Responsibilities:
    Position is for a Scientist I at the 222-S Laboratory. Candidate will interface with union represented personnel, chemists, engineers and public. Candidate must be able to qualify as radiological worker. This position will support activities of the Research and Testing Development Organization in performing nonroutine activities and studies including corrosion studies.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Develop new testing methods and conduct method qualification studies.
    • Prepare analytical reports and perform technical data reviews.
    • Provide leadership and motivation in directing analytical activities.
    • Demonstrate diplomacy in working with others (subordinates, peers, support organizations, higher management levels) to obtain desired results. Interface with groups within and outside the 222-S Laboratory.
    • Provide direction, oversight, and training to chemical technicians.
    • Operate under strict deadlines. Plan, organize and manage activities in assigned areas to meet Laboratory and client schedules.
    • Act as subject matter expert within assigned areas, provide assistance to less experienced scientists, and other organizations within the 222-S Laboratory.
    • Author and perform reviews and systematic process improvements for assigned methods, procedures and test plans.
    • Function as the technical authority for assigned methods, procedures and study areas, including person-in-charge functions and configuration control authority.
    • Operate hot cell manipulators to perform in-cell experiments.
    • Ability to work well as part of a team (essential).

    Required Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a BS in Chemistry or related science (physics or geology) or engineering degree, 7 years related experience, including performing laboratory work is required.
    • Must be knowledgeable of laboratory analytical methods.
    • Strong writing skills

    Preferred:
    • Advanced degree
    • Corrosion experience
    • Radiological laboratory work experience is preferred
    • Demonstrated scientific communication skills, knowledge of laboratory operations and quality assurance practices
    • A commitment to analytical excellence and unwavering ethics.
    • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment.
    • Detailed oriented
    • Candidate will be knowledgeable about Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word and Excel).
