Special Education Teacher instructs special education students in a classroom setting. Prepares lesson plans and instructional materials designed to meet the needs of individual students. Being a Special Education Teacher develops individualized education plans, and evaluates and monitors students' performance. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. Additionally, Special Education Teacher may provide behavioral consultation or implement therapeutic programs for students. May mentor teaching aides. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific special education teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Special Education Teacher occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     In pursuit of this mission, we are hiring a Special Education Teacher for Early Childhood Special Education at Pleasant View. This individual will ensure students with special education needs receive world-class instruction in all content areas. Our teachers must also work to build safe, nurturing classrooms where students can be themselves and work collaboratively towards common learning goals. Teachers will work alongside other teachers, parents, social workers, school psychologists, SLPs, and students to ensure they are providing the best education experience to all students.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree
    • Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in special education with a focus on ECSE
    • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with special education endorsement (will be required to enroll in program if don't currently possess)
    • Previous successful elementary teaching experience in urban setting


    Job Responsibilities
    • Demonstrate passion for and expertise of working with students with learning disabilities
    • Provide world-class instruction in literacy, math, and other content areas to students with special education needs
    • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
    • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
    • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
    • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
