    This Assistant Director of Funding is part of Surf Internet’s Special Funding team. With thoughtful consideration and thoroughness, this position can significantly impact the funding resources available to Surf for its rural broadband expansion efforts. The ideal candidate possesses experience in both broadband and grant funding.

    Responsibilities:

    • Maintains technical expertise and serves as a resource on local, state and federal grant/loan funding programs
    • Reviews and interprets grant applications documents (NOFOs, RFPs, contracts, regulations, policies, reporting requirements, contracts, guidelines, policies, and regulations) to align Surf’s submissions with overall requirements.
    • Collaborates with operations, OSP, and finance staff to develop accurate and realistic project budgets for grant proposals, including income and expenditure forecasts
    • Manages the grant application process from start to finish, including gathering supporting documents, completing application forms, and submitting proposals by deadlines
    • Coordinates with granting agency program staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting to grant funders, including writing interim and final reports as required
    • Coordinates with internal Surf teams for submission of specific content related to their areas of expertise and clearly communicates deadlines and other requirements
    • Coordinates with Surf’s contracted engineering and consultancy firms, and manages both the contributions from these third parties along with managing and tracking associated costs
    • Provides support for grant management activities, including tracking grant deadlines, monitoring grant deliverables, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements
    • Provides financial monitoring and analysis of contracts and grants and partners with granting organizations to ensure expenses are being paid according to contract
    • Consults on and completes pre-award applications and participates in contract closeouts
    • Performs post-award accounting of more complex grants; interprets regulations and guidelines of program funding for standard grants and prepares reports for granting agencies
    • Evaluates contract compliance and advises others on contractual rights and obligation
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, public administration, telecommunications, or a related field.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in grant writing, grant management, or a related field.
    • Strong writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals and reports.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously.
    • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with mapping software and databases preferred
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and achieving results.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
