Speech and Language Pathology Director plans and directs the operations of an organization's audiology and speech therapy functions to ensure effective operation and compliance with regulatory standards. Designs policies and processes to ensure efficient service delivery and promote best practices. Being an Speech and Language Pathology Director develops and implements long-term strategic plans and objectives for audiology and speech therapy programs in alignment with the organization's overall objectives. Provides leadership and oversight to the development and expansion of programs or service offerings. Additionally, Speech and Language Pathology Director evaluates program design, assessment tools, and treatment protocols and researches advancements in the field. Develops and manages the budget to allocate resources to support staffing, equipment, and other program needs. Monitors operational and financial metrics to measure the achievement of organizational objectives. Negotiates and selects vendor proposals and manages vendors to maintain inventories and adhere to budgets. May require a master's degree in audiology or speech pathology. Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to senior management. The Speech and Language Pathology Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Speech and Language Pathology Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.       Summary:
      Under the supervision of a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in providing educationally related speech and language services to special education students according to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
      • Under the supervision of a speech and language pathologist, provide direct treatment and treatment assistance to students.
      • Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols developed by a supervising speech and language pathologist.
      • Prepare therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and during therapy activities as directed by the supervising speech and language pathologist.
      • Assist in data collection and document student progress toward meeting established goals and objectives, (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs), and report the information to a supervising speech and language pathologist.
      • Assist in maintaining student files and submitting treatment documentation.
      • Assist a speech and language pathologist during assessments, including assisting with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
      • When competent to do so, as determined by the supervising speech and language pathologist, act as an interpreter for non-English-speaking students and their family members.
      • Program and provide instruction for students in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
      • Assist with speech and language pathology in-service training and family or community education.
      • Other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

      Note: The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant is NOT authorized to conduct evaluations, interpret data, make changes to an IEP, or perform any task without the express knowledge and approval of the supervising SLP.

      Qualifications:
      • Abilities:
        • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students, particularly those exhibiting development delays;
        • Appropriately manage student behavior and guide student toward more acceptable social behaviors;
        • Appropriately administer basic first aid;
        • Communicate effectively in oral and written form and, depending on the assignment, use manual communication techniques to communicate with the hearing impaired;
        • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment;
        • Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate speech therapy materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment;
        • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
        • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults;
        • Access community resources to best serve infant/toddler and family needs;
        • Work effectively in unsupervised and uncontrolled environments;
        • Stoop, bend, crawl, lift 50 lbs., and see and hear sufficiently to perform the duties listed above.

      Education and Experience:
      • High School diploma or GED.
      • Have earned an associate degree in and/or graduation from a Speech-Language Pathology assistant certificate program, OR have earned a Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders with a minimum of 70 hours field work/clinical experience from a Board-approved program.

      Licenses and Certificates:
      • Hold a current Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license from the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.

      Salary and Terms of Service:
      Salary range (50) $24.94 - $29.21 per hour, eight (8) steps, seven (7) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F). Holidays, sick leave and vacation benefits. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance, prepaid life insurance plan for employee only, prorated according to number of hours worked.
