Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs

  • The responsibilities for the Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs include:
    • Assist faculty and others with grant writing.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic planning.
    • Prepare internal reports as necessary, such as to meet compliance standards for SACSCOC and strategic planning, grant/contract activity reports tailored to meet specific requests for external entities including the Alabama Commission on Higher Educations, the SACSCOC, etc.
    • Assist with modification and programming of database to accommodate differing requests and reporting requirements.
    • Maintain files on federal assurances, track federal regulations and changes in federal requirements, and informing appropriate personnel of required university policy changes needed to fulfill federal assurance requirements.
    • Coordinate the annual award of the “Chancellor’s Award of Distinction for Sponsored Program Success”.
    • Coordinate and submit University compliance reporting including Title III Eligibility; Department of Health and Human Services, Misconduct in Research Integrity; Annual Renewal of Central Contractor Registration; Department of Justice, Federal Annual Certification Report Money Laundering & Asset Forfeiture; Alabama Commission on Higher Education Research Expenditure Report; and others as required.
    • Maintain and support faculty on all proposals. Submit electronic Assist the Director in establishing a single-point-of-contact for grant or contract proposals requiring electronic submission and clearance. Activities include but are not limited to 1) registration and maintenance of online sponsor registrations, 2) registration and assignment of faculty login and password information, 3) familiarity with online processes in which to assist faculty in navigating online submissions.
    • Assist the Director in the development and oversight of policies and procedures related to the employment of grant/contract employees.
    • Assist with connecting grant writing liaisons.
    • Provide assistance with seeking external dollars to support university strategic goals.
    • Securing reviewer’s comments, copies of proposals and any other documents to assist grant writers in improving the competitive success.
    • Coordinate faculty/staff training in all aspects of proposal development both face-to-face and through videoconferencing.
    • Database maintenance of workshops and faculty training.
    • Coordinate global TROY faculty and staff training through videoconferencing.
    • Promote webinar opportunities to TROY faculty and staff.
    • Conduct research for specific funding request of TROY faculty and staff.
    • Assist the Director in the review and distribution of daily, bi-weekly, and monthly publications of potential funding opportunities and target these opportunities to interested TROY faculty and staff members.
    • Provide as needed specialized training to faculty on the operations of sponsored programs.
    • Coordination and supervision with support staff to develop current lists of faculty and staff.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelors’ degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in Communication, English, Business or related field required.
    • Three to five years of experience with grants and contracts, preferably relevant to a public university.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Prefer someone with Pre-Award Experience, Grant Writing Experience or Post-Award Experience
    • Certified Research Administrator certification or willing to pursue (CRA, CPRA or CFRA)
