The Spray Painter requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Utilizes a sprayer to apply paint to a variety of products. Being a Spray Painter has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. In addition, Spray Painter relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.     Duty Locations:
    Yosemite National Park, California
    Mount Rainer National Park: Longmire, Washington

    Performs a full range of preparation and painting on the exterior and interior of park buildings and structures. Calculates amounts and order types of paint, supplies and equipment needed to complete painting and drywall projects. Determines a schedule, oversees, and directs up to 3 employees including tracking hours worked in Maximo, a Facility maintenance tracking program, on a daily basis. Sets up proper work site staging areas and assure all work is completed professionally and safely. Prepares surfaces prior to applying paint with spray guns, brushes and rollers and may work in excess of 35 feet off of the ground utilizing ladders, scaffold, motorized lifts, and personal fall protection equipment in compliance with federal and state regulations.

    Physical Demands: The painter prepares, and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. The work may be at extreme heights (such as water tower or tall buildings). This required the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry and set up materials and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weighs 80 pounds and over.

    Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present. The employee is sometimes required to prepare, treat and coat surfaces outside in all types of weather. Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sun glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones.

    • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
    • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or
    • (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    Applicants must be physically fit and, as required in the Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Handbook X-118C, must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the job elements listed below to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. You must meet the 2 point level on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements listed.
