Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control performs hospital-wide surveillance and data collection as part of an overall infection-control program. Investigates possible incidences of infection and implements remedial action. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control works with the infection control committee to establish infection control standards and procedures, and educates staff on how to prevent and control infections. Informs the appropriate state and county organizations of any reportable infections and diseases. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a valid state RN license. May require CIC certification. Staff Nurse - RN - Infection Control's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. POSITION SUMMARY:
Based on the unique needs of the Community as identified in the Facility Assessment, the Infection Preventionist (IP), along with Community leadership and the Medical Director, ensures that current standards of practice related to infection prevention and control are incorporated in resident care and employee actions. The primary purpose of the IP’s job is to oversee the planning, organization, development, direction, and evaluation of the infection prevention and control program throughout the Community in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations. While the Director of Nursing (DON) chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, the IP will support the DON in areas identified and as outlined below. This will include identifying Community training needs based on infection surveillance and process/outcome measurement, developing training plans and materials, as well as evaluating efficacy of training provided.
