The Director of Underwriting will be responsible for overseeing the underwriting process, managing a team of underwriters, and ensuring the profitability, growth, and risk management of our dental insurance plans.
Job Summary Details
• Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
• Provide guidance and support in complex underwriting scenarios.
• Develop and maintain, with the actuary dept, comprehensive underwriting models that account for
known risk factors.
• Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve business goals and objectives.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align underwriting practices with overall company
strategies.
• Evaluate and analyze underwriting data to assess and mitigate risks.
• Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to the development of new dental insurance products by providing underwriting
expertise.
• Collaborate with product development teams to ensure competitive and profitable offerings.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance underwriting accuracy and efficiency.
• Stay informed about industry best practices and technology advancements to continuously
improve underwriting processes.
• Work closely with other departments, including actuarial, claims, and sales, to ensure a holistic
approach to insurance product management.
• Collaborate with external partners, such as reinsurers, to optimize risk management strategies.
• Ensure work from department is thoroughly peer-reviewed, accurate, replicable, and transparent.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Specific Skills/Knowledge
• In-depth knowledge of health insurance regulations, policies, and industry trends.
• Ability to assess and analyze risks associated with health insurance policies and make informed
decisions.
• Ability to make sound underwriting decisions, balancing risk and profitability considerations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the health insurance industry, including market trends, competitor
offerings, and emerging issues.
• Experience in leading and mentoring underwriting teams, fostering a collaborative and high performing work environment.
• Skill in evaluating policy data and trends to contribute to the development of competitive
insurance products.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data sources, derive viability, and mine data to
support underwriting decisions.
• Excellent skills in MS Excel modeling
• Excelled decision-making including proven track record for using data sources, interpreting data
and drawing strategic conclusions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to ethical underwriting practices and adherence to industry standards

Compensation
In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary for this position is $167,830 - $218,179, exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired at LIBERTY, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any, final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
