Structural Engineer designs load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, or roadways. Performs analysis of building materials for use in construction. Being a Structural Engineer develops blueprints or specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations. Determines cause of structural failures, damages, and defects through site investigations. Additionally, Structural Engineer provides reports detailing investigations and assessment of damages to the structure. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be a Structural Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed.     JOB TITLE:   

    Structural Trades Technician, Senior

    JOB PURPOSE:   

    Perform structural maintenance and construction on University structures. Perform additional duties of lead worker, which include assisting with supervision, technical guidance (training) to others, developing quotes, reviewing vendor estimates, scheduling, prioritizing and assigning work orders.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    • Act as team leader on job site. Train and mentor new staff.
    • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine equipment and materials required and methods of installation to complete project.
    • Perform work in specialized areas such as window installation, finish carpentry, roof and ceiling construction or repair, concrete form construction, demolition of walls, floors and ceilings for remodeling projects.
    • Primary person to fill in for supervisor while he/she is away, and to do inspections in the field. Complete complex technical work and troubleshooting. Perform site inspections and review work of others.
    • Coordinate with other shops and internal and external customers.
    • Erect and safely utilize scaffolding, ladders, or swings.
    • May prepare surfaces for paint, varnish, enamel, lacquer, or stain application using appropriate chemicals and tools and apply using appropriate tools.
    • May install glass including preparing frames, measuring and cutting to specification, placing and securing glass in frames utilizing a variety of procedures and tools.
    • May tape and texture drywall surfaces.
    • May install resilient tile and replace broken tile including preparing surfaces, installing tile base, arranging tile designs, cutting tile to fit securely and neatly around edges and corners.
    • May finish or refinish furniture utilizing the appropriate procedures and materials.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

    Education: High School Diploma or GED, plus completion of U.S. Department of Labor approved journeyman-level status in construction area

    Experience: 4 years construction experience in a lead role

    Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Read, interpret and work from routine sketches, blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.
    • Read, understand and follow safety procedures.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Select appropriate materials based on application and amounts required
