    The Idaho Division of Veterans Services (IDVS) is currently hiring a full-time Volunteer Services & Activities Coordinator at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello.

    The ideal candidate will plan, organize, and coordinate a program for recruitment and utilization of volunteer workers and a recreational, physical and individualized activities program for a geriatric long-term care facility.

    Responsibilities:

    • Evaluates program activities and monitors compliance with state and federal laws and rules
    • Establishes program goals, objectives, and priorities
    • Plans and implements a program to recruit and place volunteer workers
    • Analyzes work sites to determine potential for volunteer placement
    • Evaluates program performance
    • Participates in and speaks to community groups to promote volunteer program
    • Plans, promotes, and implements special projects requiring community support
    • Seeks and develops funding and donor support from outside sources
    • Coordinates and integrates resident activities program with other organizational units and functions
    • Maintains inventory of activity equipment and theme décor
    • Develops and maintains program record keeping system
    • Prepares a variety of reports of program activities
    • Assesses needs and recommends program changes or development
    • Prepares master activities calendar
    • Recommends and monitors program budget
    • Evaluates intake data and collects pertinent psychosocial information
    • Develops activities plan for each resident considering psychosocial needs, physical limitations and health concerns
    • Reviews staff documentation and adjusts residents activities plans
    • Identifies and develops a variety of community contacts and resources to enhance existing recreation programs and develops new activities
    • Hires, trains and evaluates staff
    • Plans and conducts recruitment of volunteers; screens, interviews, and selects volunteers
    • Places volunteers in appropriate jobs and evaluates performance
    • May recruit and coordinate volunteers to provide religious services in a state institution
    • Conducts orientation of volunteers and establishes and monitors (or conducts) training programs
    • Develops cooperative relationships with community resources and other volunteer programs for referral of volunteers
    • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:


    Some knowledge of:

    • Supervisory practices

    Experience:

    • Directing an activities program in a health care facility
    • Planning, developing, and maintaining programs to utilize volunteer workers

    • Utilizing community resources for recruitment of volunteers
    • Supervising volunteers including interviewing, selection and performance evaluation
    • Training volunteer workers
    • Maintaining program records
    • Preparing and giving oral presentations to groups

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Department of Veterans Affairs Quality of Life Standards for nursing homes requires the activities program be directed by a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist, or an activities professional who: is licensed or registered by the State (licensure not applicable in Idaho); and is certified as a therapeutic recreation specialist, or as an activities professional, by a recognized accrediting body.
