    Pittsburgh Public Schools employs over 4,000 individuals in various capacities to support the academic achievement and strength of character of the 25,000 students we serve.

    Under the direction of the Executive Director of Early Childhood the Support Services Specialist facilitates the coordination of supplemental services for students requiring additional support with social-emotional development, including those who display challenging/at-risk behaviors.

    The Support Services Specialist collaborates with Early Childhood/Early Intervention program staff, school leaders, families, and contracted mental and behavioral health service providers. The Support Services Specialist consults with early childhood professionals to improve the outcomes for students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program. This position is responsible for ensuring that services are provided, and support systems are linked that will increase inclusive and developmentally appropriate practices, build child-teacher, child-family, and teacher-family relationships.

    Please note that this is a new position that must be Board approved to be opened at the upcoming Board Legislative Session. The interview process will occur prior to approval.

    Support Exempt Salary Schedule, Level 5 (Salary: $63,750 a year)

    Qualifications

    Candidates must be enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district. In addition, we are seeking candidates with:

    - Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, Early Intervention, or related field

    - (5) years post-degree experience working in an Early Childhood classroom or clinical environment supporting young children with challenging behaviors, mental health needs, and/or IEPs.

    -Knowledge and practice using the Conscious Discipline approach is preferred.

    - Comprehensive understanding of early childhood best practices, early childhood mental health, positive behavior support approaches.

    - Experience working collaboratively with administration to make appropriate decisions concerning programming needs that are in the best interest of the child.

    -Ability build and maintain strong working relationships while working collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.

    - Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word (ChildPlus preferred).

    - Strong analytical skills and an aptitude for data.

    - Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.

    - Ability to innovate, research and think creatively.

    - A capacity to solve problems, to stay organized and manage multiple priorities.

    -Productive in working independently to achieve goals.

    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Essential Job Functions

    1.Lead and facilitate the coordination of supplemental services for early childhood students requiring additional support within social-emotional development and at-risk behaviors.

    2.Conduct observations of children identified as having social-emotional needs, displaying at-risk behaviors, mental health challenges, and/or special needs.

    3.Determine effective strategies and resources that can be provided to students, families, and staff to ensure student success.

    4.Provide consultation to Early Childhood classroom staff regarding behavior management and mental health support for students.

    5.Coordinate service delivery needs with contracted service providers for classrooms and/or individual students around positive behavior support and/or mental health needs.

    6.Schedule and attend collaborative meetings to drive communication and service delivery for children with social-emotional and/or developmental needs.

    7.Serve as a liaison between contracted service providers, families, and program staff to ensure lines of communication are open and students are provided with services.

    8.Provide professional development to staff related to student?s social-emotional development.

    9.Manage, collect, and utilize data to track student progress and service delivery implementation.

    10.Work collaboratively and communicates effectively in formal and informal situations with families, ECE Program staff, Early Intervention (EI) Program staff, and contracted service providers to ensure students are receiving the support services they need to be successful in school and life.

    11.Participate in departmental, team, and individual planning and goal- setting.

    12.Communicate effectively and confidentially at all levels, over the phone, face-to-face, and electronically.

    13.Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
