Surgeon - Burn jobs in California
Surgeon - Burn examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with burns from heat, cold, chemical, or electrical incidents. Performs escharectomy, skin grafting, and secondary burn surgery. Being a Surgeon - Burn reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Burn may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Job Overview
The board eligible/certified general or plastic surgeon will be involved in all aspects of burn care at Shriners Hospitals for Children South California.
This position is full time, non-exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $174.51 - 246.37/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.
Responsibilities
This is not an all-inclusive list of this job’s responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
• Patient evaluation/treatment in the acute and reconstructive phases for adults and children• Initial resuscitation• Airway and breathing management• Critical care• Management of compartment syndromes• Acute wound coverage (burn excision, skin grafting, flap coverage with skills in advanced flap techniques, etc.)• Nutrition and metabolic management• Scar management• Reconstruction skills (basic skills)• Principles of burn rehabilitation and re-socialization• The ability and experience to conduct scholarly/clinical/translational research.• Evidence of success in obtaining extramural funding and/or administering clinical trials• Participation in medical education programs both as attendees and presenters.• Effectiveness of working relationships with other surgeons and hospital staff• The ability to work with underprivileged and interact with the local and international community.• The ability to assist with reintegration of burn survivors into society.Qualifications
