Surgeon - Trauma examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats critically injured patients. Performs emergency procedures including endotracheal tube intubation, tube thoracostomy, pericardiocentesis, ultrosonographic evaluation, and peritoneal lavage. Being a Surgeon - Trauma reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Trauma may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center seeks an additional BC/BE orthopedic surgeon to join four others as part of an outstanding orthopedic trauma and acute care team. Fellowship training in orthopedic trauma preferred, but not required. The surgeons are supported by a general trauma service, allied health professionals; plastic surgery, hand and pediatric orthopedic surgery onsite coverage, well-trained specialists, hospitalists, and nursing staff complete our team. Our orthopedic trauma program compliments our general orthopedic practice.
