Ensures that all crew are at the swab rig and ready to work at scheduled time. Being a Swab Rig Operator maintains productivity standards for all rig functions. Maintains a safe working environment and ensures compliance of applicable regulations and policies. Additionally, Swab Rig Operator may require a high school diploma. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. The Swab Rig Operator supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Swab Rig Operator typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Qualifications: A heavy equipment operator is skilled at driving, controlling, and operating a set of equipment, such as trucks, construction or power equipment.  This equipment is used in building work, distribution of construction materials, and in commercial and substantial disposal of waste materials.  A heavy equipment operator ensures the movement and functioning of heavy machines in carrying out specific tasks.  Equipment operators are responsible for ensuring that safety procedures are completely followed at all times.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required: 

    ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Knowledge of:

    • excavating foundations and trenches to grade within OSHA safety guidelines
    • calculate, figures, shoots and maintains grade using transit and multi axis grade lasers
    • materials, methods, and appropriate tools to move dirt
    • principles and processes for providing customer service and evaluating customer satisfaction
    • machines and tools including their designs, uses, benefits, basic repair, and basic maintenance

    Skills:

    • operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies
    • operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, backhoe, man-lift, dump truck, snowplow, road grater, front-end loader, hydraulic excavators and skid steer
    • operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers and other small equipment and tools
    • plows snow and salts roads according to departmental policy
    • performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
    • inspecting and evaluation the quality of products
    • basic reading, writing, and communications skills

    Abilities:

    • work with and assist the crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a backhoe, road grater, excavator or front-end loader
    • to get out of the equipment and work in the trench or hole is a must
    • assist in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices
    • multi-task and prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment
    • exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time
    • apply commonsense understanding to carry out oral and written instructions
    • take and follow directions and feedback
    • define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • operate successfully in a team environment

    Education Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.  Relevant work experience may be substituted for education requirements.

    Experience Requirements: A Heavy Equipment Operator will typically have 5 years of experience as an operator and possessing a CDL is preferred.

    Tool Requirements:       Applicants are required to have in their possession and maintain their own tools relevant to their job.

    Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:  good eye-hand coordination including usage of one or both left and right hands/arms to work bilaterally and/or independently to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects; normal or correctable to normal vision and hearing; ability to kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, bend, stretch, twist, reach, stand, sit and walk on frequent basis; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on frequent basis.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

    Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    FLSA Status:       This position is non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay.
