Switchboard Operator operates a switchboard or telephone console to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls. Answers incoming calls and basic questions, transfers calls to extensions, and responds to emergency situations as necessary. Being a Switchboard Operator monitors the phone system's efficiency and performs routine troubleshooting. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Switchboard Operator typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Switchboard Operator may require 0-1 year of general work experience. OVERVIEW:
Operate the switchboard by relaying incoming, outgoing, and inter-facility calls by performing the duties listed below. Receives Residents and guests and directs them to the proper area. Perform minor administrative duties. Blood and body fluids exposure: Category III.

REQUIRED SKILL, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILL:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to communicate effectively with Resident, other Staff members, and visitors. Must have a clear speaking voice.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized and emergency situations.
