Answers incoming calls and basic questions, transfers calls to extensions, and responds to emergency situations as necessary. Being a Switchboard Operator monitors the phone system's efficiency and performs routine troubleshooting. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Switchboard Operator typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Switchboard Operator may require 0-1 year of general work experience.     Essential Duties & Job Functions :

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

    • Ensures a safe work environment.
    • Operates various types of equipment during on maintenance projects.
    • Informs supervisor of any incidents involving injury, spills, equipment malfunction and / or damage.
    • This position has no supervisory duties.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

    • Knowledge of the functional operation, the purpose, the capabilities and limitations of any piece of equipment he or she is qualified to operate.
    • Knowledge of the proper manner in which to operate and maintain a specific piece of equipment.
    • Ability to read, interpret or use capacity charts, rigging diagrams, common hand signals, grade stakes or other applicable drawings.

    Demonstrate the safe accessories within the range intended.

    • Ability to read and understand the results and purpose of all gauges on the equipment.
    • Ability to properly maintain and service the piece of equipment daily.
    • Ability to read and understand safety manuals and safety and warning signs.
    • Skilled in oral communication in order to give and receive oral safety warnings and instructions and task assignments.
    • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
    • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
    • Skilled for or at least three (3) of the following classes and types of equipment but may be qualified for more. Types of equipment include;

    heavy trucks, loaders, blades, dozers, backhoes, as well as specialized equipment such as vac-trucks, super suckers, miners, etc.

    • Ability to prepare a detailed time sheet / log of daily work assigning proper coding for invoicing purposes.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
    • Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to severe outside weather conditions.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard.

    • MOBILITY : Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push / pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
    • HEARING : Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
    • VISUAL ACUITY : Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
    • LIFTING : Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 30 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
    • RANGE OF MOTION : An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire / post offer FCE.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications :

    • High school diploma or GED is required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the operation of a minimum of three types of equipment with a high degree of skill and expertise with at least one or more types of equipment.

    Types of equipment include; heavy trucks, loaders, blades, dozers, backhoes, as well as specialized equipment such as vac-trucks, super suckers, miners, etc.

    • Current DOT Medical Card.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    • Oil field experience preferred.
    • Arctic experience is preferred.
