We are seeking a dedicated Pre op nurse to act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the health care team at Cedar Surgical Associates. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of Cedar Surgical Associates. The Pre-op nurse will ensure quality care to the individual patients pre-operatively including, but not limited to geriatric, adult, pediatric and adolescent patients.

This position will work every surgery day, Monday-Thursday. The average hours worked are 25-30 hours per week. This position has potential to become full time.

All shifts are daytime hours. No holidays, no weekends, no taking call.

Pay is dependent on experience

Responsibilities

• Assesses physical and emotional needs of patients and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
• Respects patients right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
• Follows appropriate Pre-Op/Admitting policies and procedures.
• Performs pre-operative instruction and explanation according to facility policy and procedure.
• Is knowledgeable about and responsive to emergency situations, i.e. cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reaction, fire, disaster etc.
• Sets priorities to facilitate the timely and efficient flow of patients throughout the day.
• Updating charts, patient files, and medical records
• Collaborating with the medical team on pre-operative patient care and facilitating timely specialized interventions if needed.
• Providing comfort and reassurance to distressed pre-operative patients and concerned family members.
• Educating patients and their families on pre-surgery expectations, as well as answering questions.

Qualifications

• An associate's or bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN).
• Registered Nurse (RN) certification.
• At least two years of experience working as a nurse, PACU/critical care experience preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in electronic health record, and paper charting.
• Experience in measuring and interpreting vital signs and levels of consciousness.
• Advanced knowledge of best practices in patient care.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Superb organizational and time management abilities.
• Availability to work 10 plus hours shifts.
• ACLS certification
• PALS certification
• BLS certification
