Overview: The RN MDS Nurse is responsible for gathering information on a healthcare facility's current and future patients for future assessment, including physical and mental states. The RN MDS (Minimum Data Set) Department Director has overall responsibility for ensuring accurate, and timely completion of the RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) process. The RN MDS Department Director must understand both how to correctly code the MDS and how the MDS data is being used in multiple government programs. The RN MDS Department Director has overall responsibility for case management of all skilled residents, both Medicare Part A and managed care. The RN MDS Department Director must be able to provide organizational data to support quality, regulatory, and financial outcomes. The RN MDS Department Director must ensure that the company complies with accuracy and timeliness standards as listed in Federal and State Regulations and the RAI Manual. Each MDS Coordinator is responsible for an assigned set of resident rooms. The RN MDS Department Director has department supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the facility Administrator.
Job Responsibilities:
Specific duties for each set of assigned rooms include:
Prepare and track electronic paperwork submissions to federal and state agencies. This includes the MDS and Michigan LOCD. Maintain a hard or electronic copy of all Final Validation Reports for 7 years.
Liaise with discharge planners, social services, therapy, admissions, clinical, and leadership staff to ensure good discharge planning and promote positive outcomes.
