Job Summary
Provide leadership, coordination, and logistical management of information technology and information systems for Granite School District. This includes network and system technology infrastructure, network and data security, data facilitation, software development and maintenance, database administration, technology service desk, audiovisual installation and repair, hardware repair, and wiring.
Essential Functions
- Supervise six manager direct reports and sixty-five indirect employees.
- Participate in relevant professional organizations and professional learning to continually advance existing understanding of effective technology practices.
- Participate on the District Improvement Steering Committee (DISC) to execute the Graduate of Granite Strategic Plan.
- Act as a senior partner in the development and execution of Granite’s Technology Strategic Plan.
- Act as the facilitator for Granite’s Technology Change Advisory Board.
- Act as the District data privacy officer, reviewing, negotiating, and signing data privacy agreements.
- Serve on district-wide committees as appropriate.
- Represent and oversee all of Granite’s interest in data security including the development and implementation of the Technology Governance Plan.
- Support and promote cybersecurity efforts to protect against and remediate cyber threats for the entire district, while being compliant with all appropriate legal and regulatory mandates concerning privacy and security.
- Facilitate strategic planning, development, and continual monitoring of a multimillion-dollar budget.
- Supervise strategic planning, development, and continual monitoring of E-Rate (Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund under the Federal Communications Commission) efforts in Granite.
- Develop staffing plans with department managers to build a high-performance, multi-functional team with the expertise necessary to achieve department objectives, including certification requirements
- Manage, direct, mentor, and inspire managers to own all elements of the employee life cycle: recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, personal development, etc.
- Oversee the planning, design, development and deployment of school software solutions and enhancements to existing applications and/or content.
- Oversee all external partnerships regarding the development of software and services.
- Maintain support and maintenance contracts with external partners.
- Oversee all technology software and hardware efforts districtwide.
- Ensure service desk high-quality support and customer service.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested or required.

- Ability to manage enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS).
Required Training and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business, or related field; or five or more years of related experience and/or training in combination with a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field required
- Advanced degree preferred
Required Prior Experience
- Five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Work experience in public education preferred
- Experience working in software and/or system development preferred
- Experience working in database administration preferred
- Experience working in network administration preferred
Assigned Decision Making
- Makes decisions regarding budget allocations.
- Provides direction in developing short and long-range planning procedures and to implement these procedures.
Non-Supervisory Interaction
- Advise administrators and secretaries in all District departments and schools.
- Interact with officials at the USBE.
- Interact with patrons.
- Present information to the Board of Education and respond to their questions frequently throughout the year.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the other Granite District departments throughout the year.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Supervise six manager direct reports and sixty-five indirect employees.
Budget Responsibility
- Responsible for developing, forecasting and monitoring District Information Systems Department budget allocations, expenditures and revenue sources.
Working Environment
This job has many deadlines and urgent projects throughout the year. Some deadlines are imposed by statute while other deadlines are unscheduled but are required when the Board, administration, USOE, Legislature, or other agency needs information or analysis. There is a significant amount of mental pressure and stress caused by the size of the budget and the impact of the decisions that are made from information that comes from this office.This job requires a significant investment of time beyond regular office hours. Circumstance may arise where working nights or weekends may be required as part of meeting the technology needs of the district.
