    Systems Engineering Manager - Client Engineering is the leader of the Systems Engineering End-User Services team, accountable for all activities related to Fred Hutch’s End-User Services Systems, including Configuration Standardization and Management, GPO Management (EU devices and servers), Application Packaging, Application Publishing, and Virtual Desktop Environments. The SysEng Manager has talent in coaching and motivating team members to deliver exceptional customer service and execute the day-to-day 24x7x365 operations and support services. The SysEng Manager ensures the timely and effective resolution of service disruptions and service requests; serves as an escalation point for customer and technical issues, conflict resolution, and clarification of processes. This role works with the Director of Systems Engineering to develop strategic direction and goals for the team and technology.  The SysEng Manager has expertise in collaboration, building strong partnerships, complex problem-resolution, and people management.

     

    The Systems Engineering Manager – End-User Services orchestrates the Systems Engineering team and defines and delivers the End-User Systems services. Using a combination of technical knowledge, people management, and influence to deliver service and support, which meet and exceed service expectations, the SysEng Manager provides leadership which ensures installed systems are working at optimal levels; proposed solutions will meet both customer’s needs and operational efficiencies; and is astute in short-term and long-term planning. The SysEng manager provides direction for various projects and activities; reviews and evaluates the team’s work and prepares performance evaluations, partnering with leadership to deliver process improvements and strategic direction.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as technical sponsor and/or technical lead for select projects, providing project oversight and ensuring the project meets its stated objectives and deliverables in support of Fred Hutch’s strategic goals.
    • Participate in annual departmental operational and project budget creation and compliance.
    • Manage day-to-day operations of staff, including vendors and contractors.
    • Develop and mentor the team’s technical and professional skills.
    • Build strong, positive partnerships with other IT teams, as well as the overall Fred Hutch community.
    • Develop metrics and monitoring capabilities covering End-User Systems Services and their availability while ensuring operational excellence and performance.
    • Track systems/software/firmware levels/revisions.
    • Review technical documentation and diagrams, ensuring they are comprehensive and understandable.
    • Prepare staff to participate in 24/7 on-call rotations, directly participate as needed.
    • Participate in hardware/software evaluations for End-User Services Systems.
    • Keep up to date on systems technology best practices and industry trends
    • Serve as an escalation for high priority and high impact issues, customer service, project management or vendor/contractor issues
    • Design and deliver formal and informal presentations on a variety of technical topics to a variety of audiences with various levels of technical understanding.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
    • Previous experience in a technical leadership and/or people management position in a complex, heterogeneous environment.
    • 5 years of experience as a multi-platform IT systems administrator or engineer, systems architect or systems integrator with increasing responsibilities.
    • Strong knowledge of server operating systems and interoperability among them
    • Strong knowledge of Configuration Standardization and Management systems (SCCM, Intune, JAMF, others), Application Packaging, Application Publishing and Virtual Desktop Environments (MS RDS, Citirx, AppV, similar)
    • Ability to present technical information coherently to all technical levels of staff and leadership
    • Experience creating and meeting annual operational and project budgets desired.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a team environment with a proven record of positive contributions to the work of the team.
    • Reliable self-starter, who can effectively work independently or in teams.
    • Ability to analyze and provide creative, innovative solutions for complex problems.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills.
    • Ability to complete multiple tasks, set priorities, and manage to critical deadlines.

    The annual base salary range for this position is from $126,901.00 to $200,574.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.  Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
