  • Foodland, Hawaii's largest locally owned grocery retailer is looking for Restaurant Hosts/Hostesses (Casual) to join our team. We are seeking high energy, responsible individuals who are passionate about creating a welcoming place for guests to enjoy high quality food & beverages.

    The Restaurant Host must have excellent customer service, be able to work and communicate well with others, follow directions and standard operating procedures of the kitchen / restaurant. Restaurant Hosts must maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance, and observe company dress code. Restaurant staff must also abide by all company policies, house rules and guiding principles; support the company culture, values, goals and mission; and maintain a positive attitude toward the work and company.

    This is an hourly position and we offer a comprehensive benefits package (specific benefits vary based on position and classification).

    Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

    • welcoming guests in a warm and friendly manner using the ‘10/5’ rule
    • Greet incoming and departing guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact
    • Seat guests and manage the seating chart using proper seating rotation among the servers
    • Monitor restaurant activity to determine seating and dining flow
    • Manage the flow of guests into the dining room and bar, and provide accurate wait time to guests if appropriate
    • Escort guests to their assigned table in the dining area, present menus, and introduce their server
    • Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner
    • Ability to read non-verbal cues and body language and use visual cues to seat guests in either the bar or dining area
    • Assist with any special requests or guest needs
    • Answer the phone within three rings, using the standard phone script
    • Proficient in restaurant general information; hours of operation, cuisine/concept, etc.
    • Help dining room staff as needed
    • Maintain professionalism and composure while under pressure

    Required Qualifications:

    • Applicants must possess a strong dedication toward learning and motivation to progress in restaurant dining environment.
    • Possess effective communication skills, positive attitude, and professionalism
    • Must abide by company dress code and grooming standards, maintain good hygiene, good posture and have required uniform and tools.
    • Responsive to constructive feedback from Chefs, Managers or staff.
    • High school education preferred or combination of education and experience
    • Previous hosting experience preferred
    • Previous restaurant/bar experience preferred
    • Must have TB Clearance
    • Must comply with all company policies and requirements

    Maintenance and Safety:

    • Comply fully with all safety policies and procedures.
    • Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with company policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis.
    • Assist in keeping all sales and storage areas clean, clear and in good order.
    • Comply with all company programs

    General:

    • Report to work on time and in uniform.
    • Take direction from management.
    • Work with a positive attitude and demeanor.
    • Must be groomed, maintain good hygiene, good posture.
    • Attend and participate in meetings as required.

    • Bending, kneeling, continuously standing (more than 10% of the time).
    • Using chemical agents or wearing protective clothing (less than 5% of the time).
